Diester Industrie and Oleon join forces for the refining of glycerine


In 2002, Oleon invested already in a 30kT glycerine refining unit at its production site in Ertvelde (Belgium). Diester Industrie was the most important crude glycerine supplier for this unit. As transport costs are becoming increasingly important Oleon and Diester Industrie have now decided to invest in a glycerine refining unit at one of the most important biodiesel facilities of Diester Industrie in Compiègne. This unit will refine the local glycerine and part of the glycerine coming from other Diester Industrie plants.

Early 2007, Oleon has started production of biodiesel at its new plant at the Ertvelde site, so also local glycerine will be available. Both parties are also looking at new applications for the refined glycerine or at new production processes.

Glycerine has become an attractive replacement for many products coming from the petrochemical sector or even from the agricultural sector.
