Fire at biodiesel producer Oleon in Ertvelde
The fire started in the fatty acid plant. Due to a leak in the distillation column, fat at a high temperature came in contact with oxygen. Nobody was injured, however the material damage to the installations is important.
Thanks to a quick response of the OLEON team as well as the fire brigade of Zelzate the fire has been limited to only one - although the main - fatty acid production installation.
How long the reparation will take still is unclear. The glycerine installation, the biodiesel plant, the fatty alcohols plant and the other fatty acid installation have not been damaged and will continue to work.
