Oleon invests 7 million euro in expansion of production plant in Oelegem (Belgium)

Oleon, with head office located in Ertvelde (Belgium) is specialized in converting animal fats and vegetable oils into a wide range of oleochemical products, combining high performances with ready biodegradability.

The company started up early 2001, when she was taken over from TotalFinaElf by a consortium of investors lead by Ackermans & van Haaren. In the same year Oleon acquired the Norwegian company Hydro Oleochemicals, the most important producer of oleochemicals in Scandinavia. Also in 2001 the decision has been taken to invest 10 million Euro in the Ertvelde site, both for building a new world class vegetable glycerine refinery, as well as for the construction of a new office building.

Today, it is the Oelegem site which is attracting attention. Luc Sterckx, CEO : “roughly seven million Euro will be invested to expand production of the site well above 65.000 tons/year. This operation increases Oleon’s total production to over 320.000 tons, standing for about 7 % of the world-wide market.” The planned expansion involves also a small increase of employment on the Oelegem site.
