Glycerol monolaurate, also called monolaurin, is a monoglyceride based on lauric acid and is often considered more biologically potent than the respective fatty acid. Since more and more restrictions on the use of antibiotics and antibiotic growth promotors are imposed, there is a need for more viable alternatives.
